Community Transport and Local Government in Australia

Local Government has a strong role in providing community transport-type services in some areas. This can involve providing direct services, contracting them out to taxis or Community Transport Groups or providing support in other ways. We will add to this collection shortly so contributions welcome!

Flexilink - Sunshine Coast Council, Qld

This service fills gaps in the public transport system. Passengers join service on the route. Eight routes are provided with 3 return trips each weekday. Pre-booking is required. The service is funded out of a Council Transport Levy and is operated by Suncoast Cabs.

The Artarmon Loop - Willoughby Council, Sydney

The  Artarmon Loop is designed to link workers who need to travel between St Leonards Station and the industrial area in Artarmon.

Village to Village Shuttle Buses - City of Sydney Council

This community shuttle bus service is operated by South Sydney Community Transport (SSCT) on every Thursday and Friday and runs on two routes, Woolloomooloo to Redfern and Redfern to Glebe. The shuttle service services links these communities, where many of the residents are transport disadvantaged.

Bundall Park and Ride - Gold Coast Council

This free service links a free car park with a commercial centre and Council Offices at Bundall on the Gold Coast. It is available morning and afternoon each weekday and is operated by Volunteering Gold Coast Transport Services.

Mosman Rider - Mosman Council

This is a free hail-and-ride service open to all residents and visitors. It operates seven days a week. Its purpose is to reduce traffic congestion and parking problems.
